Regardless of whether you are actually swamped as soon as you get wrapped up in phrases like ‘Things are way too crazy right now’, ‘I don’t have time for this’, you create a self-fulfilling prophecy. As soon as you’ve managed to convince yourself that you have too much to do you will continue to feel that way and stress yourself out. Whether you really do have way too much to do is irrelevant, once you reinforce those feelings you cement them – and we all know what stress does.
Stay focussed on the task at hand, instead of thinking how much more there is to do. Concentrate on a single task and the specific item you’re working on, not the pile of things you have to do after you’re finished.
You may not be able to change your work or how much there is to do, but you can change your perception of it. Sometimes that’s all you need to be able to power through and not drive yourself insane.
